does anybody know of any university that offers the Master’s degree in renewable (green) energy program in Mechanical Eng. (MASc) in Ontario, Canada?
Thanks.
Well a couple ar around, but don’t remember the name.
Try the Higher Education (University +) category.
So try re-asking for 100.1% info.
Active solar energy can power 40-80% of your home energy needs. Anything less than 40% is not cost effective. Besides home heating, active solar is awesome for air conditioning, detoxification of contaminated water and thermoelectric power generation.
For maximum ‘green’ power, position your solar collectors true south, tiled at an angle equal to your latitude plus 15°. The best time is 9am to 3pm when the collectors receive the most sun rays. It’s good for energy collection and optimum storage.
One of the biggest problems is jet traffic. Jets produce large amounts of green house gases in addition to the dumping of excess fuels usually over open waters. What, if anything, is being done to make air travel more environmentally friendly?
WHSGREENMOM: Perhaps it is more accurate to say the discussion in the media is on alternative energies,
I’ve read about more fuel efficient jets, but I don’t know how far off they are. Even if they were available today most airlines are in financial trouble so I don’t know if they could afford to buy them.
Because I’ve decided to live a green lifestyle I have decided to fly less. We will be taking fewer vacations and we will visit areas closer to where we live.
I disagree that green living focuses on wind and solar energy. I consider my green living philosophy to be focused on reducing the amount of energy I use, no matter what the source. I have also switched to more earth friendly cleaning and beauty products to limit my exposure to chemicals and reduce the amount of toxins I release into the environment. I also try to buy my food as close to home, I have a wonderful organic farmers market and I plant some of my own food. I am an avid recycler and have driven a Prius for 6 years. I think those are equally important aspects of green living.
I think one of the reasons people think going green is costly is the confusion between living a sustainable life and renewable energy. To me, renewable energy is just one aspect of being green.
Wouldn’t it be better to reform what we currently have than to spend the money to try and transition from gas and oil to other alternatives?
To me, green energy seems like pie in the sky. It’s a nice idea in theory, but I don’t think we could ever efficiently put it into practice.
It should be intended to compliment what we have now, not replace it.
Do you have any idea how many windmills it would take to replace one conventional coal fired power plant?
Hi all
I use green energy that is sourced 100% from renewable energy.
So raaaaaaaaaaaa do you think ethicaly I have the right to get a tumble dryer?
If you are able to dry your clothes on a clothesline or an indoor rack, that would be a better choice. Although your electricity is renewable, there are a lot of environmental impacts that come from manufacturing the dryer, before you ever get it. You’d also be buying something that eventually will have to be disposed. Line-drying clothes will make them last longer, too.
