MINH NGUYEN’ s Third Member Wind Turbine (Wind Power)

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Planet green
Advantages of Wind Energy
Wind energy offers many advantages, which explains why it’s the fastest-growing energy source in the world. Research efforts are aimed at addressing the challenges to greater use of wind energy.
Wind energy is fueled by the wind, so it’s a clean fuel source. Wind energy doesn’t pollute the air like power plants that rely on combustion of fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas. Wind turbines don’t produce atmospheric emissions that cause acid rain or greenhouse gasses.

Green-Trust.org and Woodhenge.org on Discovery’s Science Channel “Invention Nation”

Aired on December 17th, at 10pm Eastern time. The Science Channel is found on both cable and satellite TV. Check out http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/11/invention_nation.php. You will see show hosts Chris, Nobu, and Micah learning to build a 1000 watt wind turbine from scratch, which helps power our off-grid home. More information on our wind turbines can be found at
http://www.green-trust.org, http://www.woodhenge.org and http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/axialflux/.

Get the Wind Power Workshop, by Hugh Piggott, to learn how to build your own wind turbine as seen on our Science Channel episode.

Next Big Bio-Fuel – ALGAE

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Bryan Garner, News Channel 5 visits a farm in Fellsmere that produces algae which replaces crude oil. Fred Tennant (Vice President of Petroalgae) says it is cheaper than oil, a lot cheaper. Arizona State developed this Algae and or process. Bits of algae fed with carbon dioxide grow dark green. From seed to harvest in just two days.

This video was taken before the gas reached the four dollar mark. The kick in the is that this company will not produce it for the public. So I don’t see it effecting pump prices, EVER!

Green Careers: Clean Energy – Wind Power (clip)

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

From the Great Plains to the ocean shore and out at sea, the race is on to make the United States the worlds number one producer of wind power. We explore a new wind ranch to see the full range of new jobs from entry-level wind turbine technician to crane operator, wind power computer analyst and up to operations manager. We also visit a leading university taking part in the California Wind Energy Initiative where young wind power researchers are beginning their new careers designing better windmills and the wind energy systems of the future.

Jobs profiled in this program include:
Wind Turbine Technician, Crane Operator, Operations Manager, Computer Analyst, Wind Power Researcher, Aerodynamicist

Grade Levels: 7 to Adult

SRI International’s Wave-Powered Generators for Clean Energy

Friday, June 4th, 2010

In August 2007, SRI International deployed a prototype buoy-mounted, ocean wave-powered generator off the coast of Florida in the Tampa Bay. The deployment is part of a program sponsored by HYPER DRIVE Corporation, Ltd., a Japanese company focused on development and deployment of wave-powered generators around the world.

SRI’s wave-powered generators can be deployed on existing ocean buoys that use batteries as their energy source. SRI’s new generator utilizes patented electroactive polymer artificial muscle (EPAM™) technology, and offers a renewable method to continually power ocean buoys. Passive Solar Air Heater Heating System Alternative Energy

Friday, April 30th, 2010

This is a video of the Passive Solar Heating System in use at http://www.envirosponsible.com in Whitby, Ontario, Canada.

It provides a great deal of heat, and the installer, Chris, will be making it more effecient by adding a second computer fan to push the warm air at the top, painting the inside better and taping the duct work. Also, the duct work will be directed into the office where the door can be closed and used in a smaller air mass.
